| A Week “Together” |
|
A note about the special week we’ve just had.
The past week we finished what’s known in Mechina as “Togetherness Week”
Our goal this past week was to work on connecting everyone in the Mechina’s fifth class into one unified "body". We had a lot of activities working with the idea of "between man and his fellow man". We heard lessons by our rabbinical instructors, and Rabbi Ariel and Rabbi Uriah put on a skit about listening to others and trying to understand their side of things. The skit was really funny and helped us to understand the importance of listening to others.
Rabbi Boaz gave us a fascinating class on anger, and I and my classmates came away from this talk strengthened and more aware of the dangers of anger and its effects. In addition to the talks, the Mechina was decorated with signs with all kinds of saying about relationships between man and his fellow, like “Don’t judge anyone until you’ve walked in his shoes”, and we all read and took part in activities and answering a Question of the Day.
On Tuesday, we went on a stretcher run that was about 7 kilometers long. We were paired up then tied to our pair with a string, so it was pretty hard to run or even set a pace because we were tied together, but this way we helped one another. Even exchanging places under the stretcher went well and quickly, and no one pushed anyone else and I felt everyone really knew how he wasn't alone. Towards the end of the race everyone had to we had to go over an obstacle without touching it, and that’s where I felt we were all working together as we lifted everyone one by one over to the other side. Even when there was a mess - up and, instead of holding me they just let me go and I fell down really hard, I still really connected to the group when they all gathered around me and reached out to help me up.
At the end of the hike, we went back to the Mechina and really gorged on a fantastic barbeque. This week really gave me and my friends a real understanding and internalization of what it means to be together, to be a team, and working as a team, and I give my best wishes to my class (Mechina’s 5th group) that we get a lot of love and stay together always …
